A multiple-entry Schengen visa (MEV) allows you to enter and leave the Schengen Area several times within its validity, rather than just once. For frequent travellers — business, family or leisure — it saves the time and cost of applying again and again.
Single-entry vs multiple-entry
- Single-entry: you can enter the Schengen Area once. Once you leave, the visa is used up.
- Double-entry: two entries allowed.
- Multiple-entry: unlimited entries during the validity period, subject to the 90/180 rule.
The 90/180 rule
Even with a multiple-entry visa, you can only stay in the Schengen Area for a maximum of 90 days within any 180-day period. The visa may be valid for 1, 3 or 5 years, but the 90-day limit still applies to each 180-day window. It controls how long you stay, not how many times you enter.
Who qualifies for a multiple-entry visa?
- Frequent travellers with a clean history of previous Schengen visas
- Business travellers with recurring trips to Europe
- Applicants with family or property ties in the Schengen Area
- Strong, stable finances and clear proof of return to the UAE
First-time applicants are more likely to receive a single-entry visa matching their trip dates. Building a good travel record is the path to longer multiple-entry visas over time.

Frequently asked questions
How long can I stay on a multiple-entry Schengen visa?
A maximum of 90 days within any 180-day period, regardless of how long the visa is valid or how many times you enter.
Can I get a 5-year Schengen visa from Dubai?
Long-validity visas (up to 5 years) are possible but usually granted to applicants with a strong record of correctly used previous Schengen visas.
Will a first-time applicant get a multiple-entry visa?
Often not — first-time applicants usually receive a single-entry visa matching their trip. A good travel history improves future chances.
Does multiple-entry mean unlimited stay?
No. It means unlimited entries during validity, but the 90/180-day stay limit always applies.
